The Chamber Welcomes Ian Scott as Vice President for Advocacy

Chapel Hill, NC: The Chamber for a Greater Chapel Hill-Carrboro is pleased to announce the appointment of Ian Scott as the organization's Vice President for Advocacy. With 18 years of experience in the Chamber industry, Scott brings a wealth of knowledge and a proven track record of success in advocating for economic growth and positive community impact. At The Chamber, Ian will also play a leadership role with The Chamber’s Partnership for a Greater Chapel Hill-Carrboro, serving as its executive director.

“Ian understands the needs and challenges of small businesses and the communities where they live along with his extensive leadership on critical policy issues including housing affordability, regional transportation, and land use, make him the ideal choice for this role and an exciting new addition to our team,” said Aaron Nelson, President and CEO of The Chamber.

Scott is currently the CEO of the Beaufort Regional Chamber of Commerce in South Carolina, where he has led the Chamber through substantial growth in membership, revenue, and community impact. Prior to his role in Beaufort, Ian served as the Senior Vice President for Government Affairs at the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce, overseeing a regional government relations division that addressed critical policy issues across ten local governments.

"Rebecca and I are thrilled to return to our home state and establish roots in a community we both cherish. Chapel Hill-Carrboro boasts world-class institutions and amenities and has forged a distinctive identity within one of the nation's most dynamic regions," Scott said.

A native North Carolinian with degrees in History and Political Science from UNC-Chapel Hill, Scott spent a decade at the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE), where he served as the Vice President for Communications and Networks. In this role, he supervised organization-wide communications, media relations, and played a key role in developing content, programming, and member engagement for various divisions.

"The Chamber's commitment to advancing a resilient, equitable, and thriving community is why I'm so excited to be joining Team Chapel Hill. I believe deeply that housing is the defining issue of this decade at the local level. The Chamber's clarity of focus on ensuring quality housing choices for people across the earnings spectrum is a huge motivator," Scott said.

Scott will officially start in his new role on January 2, 2023. The Chamber looks forward to the positive impact of Scott's leadership on the business environment, housing ecosystem, and broader community issues in greater Chapel Hill-Carrboro.
